The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) has decided to lease 20 AC diesel buses for intercity operations on a km basis.

Unable to get an answer twice earlier, the ministry went out to tender for the third time. On the other hand, the CTU workers’ union opposed the department’s decision to lease buses under the km program. Previously, 40 electric buses circulating in the city were leased under the program and the department will receive 40 more electric buses by next month.

A department official said the main objective was to motivate people to prefer the use of public transport as a means of travel to personal transport by modernizing the fleet and operations and improving the quality and appearance of buses in order to they are comfortable, aesthetic. and attractive.

It will be the responsibility of the selected company to keep the buses in working order and clean. These buses will be leased by km for 10 years, which can be extended by one year depending on the condition of the buses.

In the 20 diesel buses, the driver will be hired by the company, while the driver will be from CTU. The agency must deliver the buses within 90 days of issuing the letter of award. Interested agencies can submit their proposals before July 12 and the call for tenders will open the same day.

The new buses will be equipped with air conditioning and heating installations. Additionally, the forward destination map will be LED-based. Each bus will have nearly 47 seats. CCTV cameras will also have to be installed on the buses.
